Pruners on a vine

Pruning season is underway

Have you ever wondered what happens in the off season in the vineyard? As the weather begins warming up, hopefully for the foreseeable future, we begin cleaning the vines up and preparing them for spring time. This process is referred to as pruning and is a very important step to ensure optimal growth for our vines. As you drive into the property, you may notice piles of wood throughout the rows, this is because the majority of the wood you see on the vine now will be cut off and discarded to allow for new shoot growth and of course, grape clusters! Each variety is cut back to a specific number of buds that will promote the right balance to allow for maximum sunlight and high quality fruit.

This is such a wonderful place tucked in my new fave town of Ashland, NE. The tasting room is beautiful, the staff are amazingly sweet and helpful, and the wine is oh so delish! I also LUV their seasonal sangria, mulled wine and live music. Thanks to the owners for sharing their LUV of wine with us!
