Cellar 426 sits high on the hill with 360 degrees of breathtaking views. Cellar 426 invites guests to cross cultures while tasting Nebraska-crafted wines in a beautiful tasting room designed with the comfort and warmth of a modern lodge. This new winery lies halfway between Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska two largest cities. Come and enjoy Cellar 426’s wines on the winery terrace overlooking the magnificent views of the wooded countryside and Lincoln skyline in the distance.
With the creation of Cellar 426, Richard has combined his love of wine and the outdoors with his talent in sales and marketing. Richard had been making wine as a hobby for several years and as his knowledge grew he decided to take a leap of faith and started taking winemaking classes with the dream to build his own winery. Richard finished his Enology degree (the study of making wine) in December of 2010 with the completion of his fall internship at Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards, in Windsor, California. The hard work in the cellar has paid off with numerous medals for our wines at International Wine Competitions. Richard’s Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with specializations in Accounting and Marketing help make the business operations of the winery run smoothly.
Cellar 426 will combine the Amy’s strong suits in horticulture and retail and business management. Amy obtained her B.S. in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a Master’s degree in Horticulture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Amy worked for several years in landscape maintenance and design. She also gained retail management experience as the assistant manager at a large multi-store florist. Amy works as the Greenhouse Director for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Amy can often be found out in the estate vineyard pruning, weeding, shoot thinning, or testing the grapes for harvest. On most weekends, Amy is pouring and talking about our award winning wines in the tasting room.
Erich works as a Jack of all trades and helps out where needed. In the summer, Erich is often seen mowing in the vineyard, helping with the harvest, and often helps with the grape processing when he is available. Once the wine is in the bottle Erich works hard to label and capsule the bottles getting them ready to enjoy! Erich graduated high school in 2014 as an Honors Student. He’s was the starting catcher on the baseball team, starting defensive end for the football team, goalie on the soccer team, and a forward on the basketball team. Erich goes to Iowa State University where he is studying business marketing and kinesiology.
Evan is the newest member of the family. Now two years old, he loves to play outdoors. He will sit patiently in the Gator as mommy works in the vineyard. A charmer, he loves to chat with the ladies in the tasting room and has his own vacuum and mop to help the staff clean at closing!
Rocky loved to run and play in the vineyard! He was a purebred black Labrador retriever. Keeping the deer at bay, as well as running security detail for the 20 acre property, were his prime jobs. He could often be found swimming in the pond, searching for animals, or at Amy’s side in the vineyard. Rocky loved to bark at the visitors as they come up our drive but as soon as they get out of their car he is their best friend! When the winery opened he became the official greeter. Sadly, Rocky passed away on September 3, 2012 after a week long battle with an illness. We loved him so much and he will be missed. We’re sure he still watching over his vineyard.
Our chocolate lab, who enjoys prancing around in the vineyard and the rest of the property, is growing up! Apollo loves sniffing for treasures and visiting his dog friends next door. He has enhanced athletic abilities as he was getting out of his pen thru a combination of jumping and climbing over the top of the 6′ kennel! He also likes to get on top of his sloped roof house, Snoopy style. We are still only slowly allowing him to run loose, and he still has a lot of puppy energy in him so we don’t let him loose during open hours. Hopefully soon, he can take over greeting duties at the winery. He is quite a charmer and is so darn cute!
